UK agency warns of fake chocolate as Wonka movie opens

With the release of the Wonka movie in 2023, the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has released warnings regarding the selling of counterfeit chocolate bars. In recent years, there have been many reports and enforcements operations involving these counterfeit Wonka bars.

Originally manufactured by Nestle, the Wonka brand is now owned by Ferrero Rocher as of 2018. However, Ferrero Rocher does not currently sell any Wonka products. The FSA has articulated the dangers in these counterfeit Wonka bars, stating the fake branded chocolate bars may be unsafe to eat. These cholcolate bars may be produced or repackaged by unregistered businesses or criminals who are not adhering to proper hygiene, labelling, and traceability regulations.

After an illness breakout due to the selling of counterfeited chocolate bars swept through Nottinghamshire, the selling of these counterfeit bars is seen as a serious and potentially dangerous issue.
