A shipment of 500 counterfeit hairdryers, imitating a model sold by Dyson, was seized at the Port of Felixstowe, UK. Border Force officers flagged the shipment due to discrepancies in the shipping information, including a false brand and delivery address. Suffolk Trading Standards tested the hairdryers and found they posed risks of electric shock and fire, with one unit overheating, melting, and smoking during testing.
Genuine Dyson hairdryers sell for around £300, which has led to a rise in counterfeits, often made in China. In 2020, four men were imprisoned for their role in a large-scale counterfeiting operation.
