In England, three individuals were arrested as part of a British investigation into the sale of counterfeit car airbags, which could have put motorists at risk.
Police raided two residential addresses in East London, seizing a total of 500 counterfeit airbags and around £140,000 in cash. A price list found at the scene indicated that the airbags were being sold for as little as £25 each.
The operation took place following a referral from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in the US. British investigators suspect that the counterfeit airbags were imported from China and potentially sold internationally. According to a warning from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), substandard airbags were responsible for three deaths and two injuries in the US between September 2023 and July 2024.
